Outreach and Communications Internship
Up to 20 hours/week mid-May – September
Voyageurs Conservancy offers a flexible work schedule to accommodate your academic commitments outside of the summer months. The start and end dates are flexible, with a loose end date of September 30, 2026.
Ideal candidates would be available to support Voyageurs Conservancy’s presence at the Minnesota State Fair in the Twin Cities in late August and early September.
LOCATION:
Voyageurs Conservancy’s main office is in Minneapolis with additional office spaces at Voyageurs National Park’s headquarters in International Falls, MN, and staff teleworking in Duluth, MN. Applicants within 1 hour of Voyageurs National Park or the Twin Cities are welcome for this position.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Voyageurs Conservancy is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Outreach & Communications Intern to support our efforts in engaging the public, Conservancy members, and community partners. This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit public outreach and communications, while contributing to the protection and promotion of Voyageurs National Park. Experience and responsibilities include:
Assist with community outreach initiatives, including event support, tabling, and representing Voyageurs Conservancy at community events to share information about our mission, programs, and impact.
Assist with administrative tasks related to outreach and communications, such as tracking engagement metrics and managing contact lists.
Support digital communications efforts including social media and blog content creation, event content capture, interviews, email communications, and website adjustments.
Capture event content, including photos, videos, and interviews, to support storytelling, development, and engagement efforts.
Support logistics for Voyageurs Conservancy’s annual photo contest and sweepstakes.
Collaborate with the team to develop creative ways to connect with new audiences and inspire support for Voyageurs National Park.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Compensation is $15/hr
Paid via direct deposit on a semi‑monthly schedule. All compensation is subject to applicable withholding, payroll taxes, and any other deductions required by law.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
Comfortable engaging with the public and representing an organization at events
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
Willingness to travel within Minnesota for events and outreach – some evening or weekend availability may be required. Flex time is respected and encouraged.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
College-level coursework in communications, marketing, environmental studies, nonprofit management, or other relevant fields
Familiarity with social media platforms, digital marketing and/or graphic design tools, and website development
Basic photography, videography, or graphic design experience
Passion for national parks, outdoor conservation, and community engagement
WORKING CONDITIONS
Implementing community events combined with office setting and home office.
The work requires some physical exertion and can involve extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines outdoors, and carrying supplies. May be required to lift or carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Travel within Minnesota and the Voyageurs National Park area, with the possibility of overnight trips for events and programs.
Some evenings and weekends required for events.
Access to a reliable personal vehicle for work-related travel is required. Mileage reimbursement is provided by Voyageurs Conservancy.
Use of a personal computer is required.
