Over 30 volunteers from all parts of Minnesota braved the rain and helped Voyageurs National Park September 7 and 8. The annual two-day volunteer blitz brings together park stewards while providing tangible project results for Voyageurs. This year, the group logged 200 hours working on 3 miles of trails and planting over 600 plants. The group helped complete on-the-ground projects at several locations of the park. Staff, volunteers and partners celebrated their hard work with a celebration dinner at Sha Sha Resort.
Ranger Chris Amidon who led the group of volunteers commented, "Through the dedicated efforts of volunteers, Voyageurs National Park accomplishes many projects that furthers our mission of preservation and enjoyment of our inspirational landscape. The fall Volunteer Rendezvous was a great success. People near and far came together to participate in the park's operation, upkeep, and appreciation, which fostered a spirit of community stewardship."
VNPA Director of Membership, Christina Hausman said, "Everyone was not only extremely hardworking, but also very fun. Even in the rain, we had a blast. I loved meeting others who were passionate about national parks."
From October 2011 through September 2012, 126 volunteers at Voyageurs National Park donated 9,942 hours of time (almost 10,000 hours!). That translates to 414 days, or over 1 year of volunteer time donated to Voyageurs.
