Hike with a Geologist
August 15
Rainy Lake Visitor Center
9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m
Journey through 2.8 billion years of Earth's history with geologist, author, and local educator Chris Hemstad. Begin the morning with an engaging indoor presentation exploring the geologic forces that shaped Voyageurs National Park before heading into the field to see those ancient stories written across the landscape.
Travel by caravan to several geologic stops along Gold Shores Road before taking a short hike to the scenic Tilson Bay overlook, where you'll enjoy a picnic lunch while overlooking the remnants of an ancient subduction zone.
