This geology-focused boat tour immerses guests in the fascinating ancient geologic history and rock formations of Voyageurs National Park through a combination of on-land interpretation and guided boat travel.
Led by enthusiastic local geologist and educator Chris Hemstad, the program explores the formation of the park nearly 2.8 billion years ago and highlights visible geologic features throughout the Rainy Lake region. Participants will engage in educational discussions, short walks at designated visitor sites, and observation-based learning from the boat.
Planned land-based stops include Little American Island and Harry Oveson Fish Camp, with additional points of interest viewed from the water along the route. Tour stops and the exact route may be adjusted based on weather conditions.
