Voyageurs National Park 50th Anniversary & 4th of July Parade Art Workshop

  • Rainy Lake Visitor Center 1797 Ut - 342 International Falls, MN, 56649 United States (map)

We are seeking several adults with some basic art skills (painting, cutting, sewing, etc.) to spend a day with local artist Martha Enzmann creating handmade giant fish windsocks for the International Falls 4th of July Parade celebrating the 50th anniversary of Voyageurs National Park.

The windsocks will represent fish native to the park. Last year, volunteers already completed walleye and northern pike and will now venture into creating bass and other species.

Activities will include: tracing a pattern onto Tyvek, painting the fish, cutting out the fish, sewing the edges and mouth pocket, cutting plastic rings from plastic buckets, inserting mouth rings, stapling into place, drilling and threading holes to string the fish, attaching a swivel hook, attaching a string loop to a garden rod and finally clipping the windsock onto the rod.

The group will begin around 9:00 a.m. and work until around 3:00-4:00. Lunch will be provided.

We look forward to making art for our park together!

This event is part of a larger event, the Voyageurs National Park Birthday Party on Rainy Lake, taking place 12:00-4:00 PM at Rainy Lake Visitor Center. To see information on that event, click here!

During this event there will also be an art project for kids – families that participate will be invited to walk in the 4th of July parade!
