Bois Forte Community Listening Meetings
Hosted by Voyageurs Conservancy & National Park Service
Help us determine missing cultural narratives in Voyageurs National Park’s environmental education program and interpretation.
Please join us to give your important input so that we can:
Modernize our environmental education curriculum so that it is culturally responsive and accurately represents past and present Ojibwe Lifeways.
Work to build bridges with Native teachers, parents and students with a connection to, or neighboring the National Park.
Support and fund Indigenous youth experiences in Voyageurs National Park (overnight trips with cultural programming, ricing, fishing, canoeing, camping).
Support and fund projects that preserve and share Indigenous narratives in the park’s interpretation, signage, and visitor centers.
Partner to build Indigenous cultural connections in our Dark Sky Initiative.
All members of the Bois Forte community are welcome to join us for facilitated conversation and a meal at one of these community listening gatherings:

The Voyageurs Conservancy is the official charitable partner of Voyageurs National Park. As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, we work in partnership with the National Park Service to support recreation and conservation projects, advance education and public engagement, and protect the cultural heritage and wild nature of the park for future generations. We both fund conservation and recreation projects, as well as implement programs that connect youth and the public to nature, science, and history.
We see the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa as an essential leader and partner in the success of the ongoing stewardship and preservation of Voyageurs National Park. As we build a new education program at Voyageurs National Park, we plan to make sure the stories and narratives we center are more inclusive of the Original Peoples of the ‘Voyageurs’ area. We would like to ask for the Bois Forte community’s partnership, engagement, and wisdom. Your involvement in shaping interpretation and education in ways that honor your peoples’ history, modern-day culture, and long legacy of environmental stewardship, would help us better preserve and share the full history of the place that is now called Voyageurs National Park.
Thank you + Miigwech
