Posted in news Fall 2010 Volunteer Rendezvous: September 10-12Volunteer with Voyageurs National Park Association Journey into Minnesota’s National Park for a weekend of exploration and restoration. Voyageurs National Park Association’s annual Volunteer Rendezvous will be held Friday, September 10 through Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center in International Falls. With the scenic backdrop of Rainy Lake, volunteers will restore a high-use area near the Visitor Center crowded with invasive Reed Canary Grass, a plant that threatens native wetland vegetation. Volunteers will work with National Park Service staff to plant native trees, shrubs and wildflowers that have cultural and medicinal significance in Ojibway tradition. The area will become an educational display garden for Voyageurs National Park visitors. The Volunteer Rendezvous is not all work and no play!Volunteer work during the day allows for evening hours of exploration in the stunning ecosystem of Voyageurs National Park. Voyageurs National Park Association also hosts an Appreciation Dinner to recognize the volunteers who lend a hand during the weekend, as well as a special group outing on the Park’s new Voyageur tour boat. Accommodations and MealsLodging will be reserved for out-of-town volunteers at Ogichi Daa Kwe, near the Rainy Lake Visitor Center, in Ogichi’s main lodge and rustic cabins.
