10,000 Reasons Why Photo ContestThe Minnesota Environmental Fund is hosting its 4th annual “10,000 Reasons Why” photo contest. The contest, which is open now until June 21, will award prizes to the best photos that illustrate why Minnesotans love and work to protect their clean air and water, public lands, sustainable agriculture, fish and wildlife habitat, and other important natural resources. “I don’t know of another state where its citizens so value the environment,” said Ed Marek, the Minnesota Environmental Fund’s executive director. “Those values include a long tradition of environmental protection, celebrating nature in art and writing, and simply getting outside every chance we get. The photo contest brings all those activities together.” The contest seeks striking digital images of nature, highlighting the diversity of life and environments in Minnesota. Images may show animal behavior, portraits of wildlife in natural habitat, plant life, natural landscapes, weather or people interacting with nature. Photos can be submitted online at www.mnenvirofund.org. Full contest rules and details are also available at that website. Winners and runners-up in adult and youth categories will receive valuable prizes geared toward a lifestyle of enjoying, appreciating and defending the state’s great outdoors. Prizes in recent years have included outdoor gear, lake resort vacations, gift certificates and more. Photos will be judged by a panel of respected photographers, including Ginger Pinson, Pioneer Press photographer, Daniel Life, professional photographer, and previous Minnesota Environmental Fund photo award winner Nathan Lovas. The photos and the awards presentation will be the focus of a celebratory event on August. — The Minnesota Environmental Fund provides workplace giving options for Minnesota employers and employees to support the work of 21 environmental organizations. It was established in 1991. Last year, the Fund distributed $733, 560 in support from 5,892 participants at over 1000 campaign partners (places of employment in MN).
