Fishing at Woodenfrog State Forest Campground
April 27, 2009
Posted in news Last week Woodenfrog State Forest Campground on Lake Kabetogama in Voyageurs National Park was named an “excellent walleye lake” in the Duluth News Tribune, and a great place to camp out and fish. Though most of the camp sites in Voyageurs are accessible by boat only, you can drive to the state mangaged Woodenfrog campground on the Western shore of Lake Kabetogama. The best time to look for walleye near the surface is when the water temperatures are between 42 to 48 degrees says Kabetogama guide, Tim Watson. Once they are spawning, they will drop down into deeper waters, and you will need a vertical jig to get them. The campground comes complete with a boat launch, and 61 drive in spots, but no electricity. The fee per night is $12.
