Voyageurs to be Featured on Weather Channel
February 3, 2009
Posted in news In November 2009, the Weather Channel will air a special on International Falls and Voyageurs National Park, highlighting the Minnesota town’s cold weather and reputation as the ‘Icebox of the Nation.’ Jim Gagne and Howard Sappington have done several shows about interesting places with quirky people. “It’s off the beaten path, places with interesting weather and personalities, too. A slice of life,” said Sappington. Last year the pair went to Barrow, Alaska and shot footage in negative 50 degree weather. This year’s show will feature International Falls’ cold weather product testing industry, and school children who discuss what it’s like to close school because of the weather. Gagne and Sappington also spent time in Voyageurs National Park traveling ice roads, watching snowshoeing and skiing, and tried their hand at ice fishing with locals. The show will be a great bit of publicity for International Falls and Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota’s only national park.
