Public Comment Period Re-opened

July 9, 2008
Posted in action alerts, news and park news

The Department of the Interior, through the Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service, has re-opened the public comment period on the proposed rule change regarding loaded gun possession in national parks and national wildlife refuges. The previous comment period ended June 30, but the new deadline is extended to August 8, 2008. If amended, the new regulations would reflect state laws, allowing the possession of loaded firearms inside the national park areas and national wildlife refuges of most states.

For more information about the proposed rule and how it might affect Voyageurs National Park, see VNPA’s article from March 26, 2008. To read the full proposal and the notice of the re-opened comment period, please read the Federal Register published today, July 9.

Everyone is encouraged to submit comments, postmarked by August 8, 2008.
