Spring Trail Rendezvous is Coming Up Fast

May 16, 2008
Posted in events and news

The Spring 2008 Volunteer Trail Rendezvous (May 30 to June 1) is an exciting opportunity to help Voyageurs National Park. Groups of 2 to 4 volunteers will monitor segments of the Park’s 60-mile trail system on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31. By identifying and mapping out trail maintenance issues (fallen trees and overgrown brush), volunteers will provide a great service to the Park. This information helps Park Service staff address these issues quickly so that Park trails are safer and more enjoyable for summer visitors.

No experience is necessary! Before the hike, volunteers will get a brief instructional talk on monitoring. Come prepared with work gloves and boots, and be ready for a day of hiking on moderate terrain.

Everyone is welcome and we encourage families to participate. The trail weekend is free for those who do not need lodging and meals. Costs for lodging and meals range from $85-$132 depending on what type of accomodations you choose.

The trail weekend is not all work and no play!

There will be free time for kayaking, discovering new trails, or just relaxing with a book by a lake. A celebration dinner to recognize the group’s accomplishments will be on Saturday night, followed by a Sunday morning group exploration of Kabetogama Lake.

If you’d like to join the fun and meet new people while helping Voyageurs National Park this spring, contact Voyageurs National Park Association (VNPA) at vnpa@voyageurs.org or 612-333-5424 for more information. Sign up by May 20.

If you can’t make it for the spring weekend but would like to help, contact VNPA to receive information about the Fall 2008 Volunteer Trail Rendezvous or make a tax-deductible contribution to VNPA to support the efforts of the Park, the Kabetogama Tourism Bureau, and VNPA in supporting Park trail maintenance.
